Important Stuff You Should Have at Your College Dorm
Leaving home to go to college is a big step for most young adults, and although the idea of being on your own can be exciting, it also holds some uncertainty for most. It will be your first time to be in charge of everything you need – food, laundry services, medications and all other stuff Mom or Dad always had in hand when you ran out of them.
Dorm life is an entirely different world so it would be wise to pack smart and complete for your move-in day. Dorm spaces are usually quite compact, so you won’t have much room to bring everything you want.
First, you will need additional storage like stackable boxes or organizers you can simply hang on the wall to store stuff like toiletries. Your cabinet will most likely be a lot smaller than the one you have at home, so bring lots of these to keep your dorm space organized.
Bring along a small desk lamp – this will come in handy when you need to study through the night while the rest of your dorm mates are asleep. Dorm rooms usually don’t have their own separate baths but have public showers instead, so a tackle box or a plastic organizer with a handle will be very valuable during your trips to the shower room.
Put together your own toiletry set and include nail clippers, tweezers, and all other toiletry items you used to borrow from Mom. She won’t be around this time in case you will need them. Keep an inventory of the medicines you will probably need – mostly cold and fever medication, antacids and anti-spasmodics.
Lastly, dorm life means eating set meals at the cafeteria at particular hours of the day. It’s not like home where you can rush down o the kitchen in your pajamas when you go hungry at night. So stock up on easy to prepare food items such as ramen noodles, crackers, peanut butter and jam, and snack bars to beat those hunger pangs at night.
