College Summer – 4 Ways to Spend Your College Summers
Before you made it to college wasn’t summer the best season of the year? The term alone oozes the feeling of freedom, sun, fun and more fun. Well, now that you’re becoming a more responsible young adult, why not use those 3 months in between spring and fall semesters to really add to what you’re already trying to achieve in college in the first place?
Idea #1 – Go to Summer School and Kill 9 or 18 Hours Fast. This first idea is really the most obvious. When you’ve been in college for a couple of years and either changed your major or recently decided on one, it’s evident you won’t be on the 4 year plan. Taking classes in the summer either during the first session, second session or both is an expeditious way to get some courses out of the way quickly.
Idea #2 – Take a Summer Session Abroad. There are numerous study abroad programs that combine academic coursework with extensive co-curricular travel. Why not get some classes out of the way and experience other cultures at the same time. It will not only take you out of the regular college grind but will expose you to a memorable life experience.
Idea #3 – Do an Internship. If you have some idea of what you’d like to major in or perhaps you’ve already decided upon a certain area of study, getting an internship in your field of interest will truly give you a real life flavor of what your type of chosen work will be like in the real world. Whether you end up enjoying your internship confirming your initial interest or realizing it’s not a good fit after all will be time well spent.
Idea #4 – Go On a Mission Trip. Nothing in the world compares to going on a mission trip, whether in the United States or in a foreign country that will get you out of your “box” and open your eyes as to the plight of how the other world lives and the challenges they face. It can be a real reality check spurring all kinds of thoughts, feelings and emotions you’ve never experienced before. It may have such a powerful effect on you to change your whole career focus. Give it a try!
